For many expats in the UAE, Eid often means celebrating away from family. However, this year, three residents experienced joyful reunions thanks to a special initiative that provided them with free return tickets home.
Najir Husain, a 39-year-old from Bangladesh, had spent six consecutive Eids away from his family. He was overwhelmed when he received a free ticket from Zariya, an initiative by Tally Solutions and City One Tours. “I couldn’t believe it until I was on the plane,” Najir said. He surprised his 14-year-old and 7-year-old sons with his unexpected arrival. “They ran and hugged me; it was incredibly emotional.” Najir traveled to Bangladesh on March 29 and will return to Dubai on April 27, enjoying extended family time.
Ashfaq Ahmed KS, a 26-year-old Indian expat from Chennai, faced his first Eid without his mother, who passed away six months prior. Usually, she split her time between Dubai and Chennai, ensuring they were together for the holiday. “This Eid felt lonely,” Ashfaq explained. However, Zariya provided him with a ticket to Chennai, allowing him to spend time with his grandfather. “Praying and being with him made me feel closer to home.” Ashfaq traveled on March 28 and returns to Dubai on April 4.
Muhammed Suhail, from Calicut, India, had spent four years celebrating Eid via phone calls. He was overjoyed to receive a ticket home and reunite with his young son. “The moment he saw me, his face lit up,” Suhail recalled. “That hug was unforgettable.” He spent precious time with his family, sharing meals and celebrations. Suhail, who arrived home on March 29, also returns to Dubai on April 4.
Tally Solutions launched the Zariya initiative in partnership with City One Tours to facilitate these reunions. “We wanted to ensure financial constraints didn’t prevent families from being together during Eid,” said Vikas Panchal, General Manager, MENA at Tally Solutions. The initiative aimed to support the UAE’s efforts in fostering community and togetherness.
